PAWS Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Pierre, South Dakota dedicated to providing shelter and care for lost and abandoned cats and dogs, finding permanent homes for adoptable pets, and educating the community about responsible pet ownership.

PAWS Animal Rescue is a foster-based rescue dedicated to saving dogs and cats in need and finding them loving forever homes. We believe every pet deserves safety, compassion, and a family to call their own.
How We Work
Foster-Based Model
We don't operate a traditional shelter. Instead, every pet lives in a loving foster home where they receive personalized attention, socialization, and care while waiting for their forever family.
Complete Vetting
Every pet in our care receives a full veterinary workup, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, and any additional medical treatment they need before being placed for adoption.
Thoughtful Matching
We carefully match each pet with the right family through our application and screening process. Our goal is a perfect fit that lasts a lifetime — for both the pet and the adopter.
Our Story
PAWS Animal Rescue was born from a simple belief: no pet should be without a safe place to call home. What started as a small group of passionate animal lovers stepping in to help animals in crisis has grown into a dedicated organization serving our community.
Over the years, we've rescued thousands of dogs and cats from local pounds, law enforcement, and difficult situations. Through our network of incredible foster families, we've been able to rehabilitate, socialize, and prepare these pets for life in their forever homes.
Every pet that comes through our program receives the medical care, training support, and love they need to thrive. We're proud of the lives we've changed — both canine and human — and we're committed to continuing this work for years to come.
